I was greatly influenced by the anti-nuclear, peace and women's movements, as well as by the foundation of the Green party. I started my political activities on a local level. Since 1989 I have been District Councillor in Pliezhausen, a cosy corner of the world. I was re-elected in 2009 and will retain my seat on the District Council in future as well - not least to help keep my feet firmly planted on the ground
It was my work as a self-employed consultant to organisations offering active labour market support policies that turned me into a social and labour market politician – and an active member of the Greens. I wanted to be able to influence Green social policy. Since 2003 I have been a member of the State Executive Committee in Baden-Württemberg and since this year also a member of the team of Spokespersons for the Green union association GewerkschaftsGrün. For me, employment and labour market policies are intrinsically linked with solidarity, equality and mutual esteem. I believe poverty can only be combated effectively with an all-round package that includes distributive justice and equality of opportunity in equal measure. Following many years of involvement as a volunteer, I am now looking forward to contributing my political hopes and experience to the opposition work in the Green Parliamentary Group in the Bundestag in Berlin. After all, we are the ones who are "Green and social".
