Spokesperson on urban development
I was born on 8 July 1960 in Bad Salzuflen. Today I live with my partner near Aachen and am the mother of a grown-up son and a proud grandmother. While studying architecture at RWTH Aachen University I became interested in the concept of combined living and working, and even before graduating had founded the Alte Windkunst Planning Group along with friends, with the aim of realising my ideas. And we all still live in this communal living project today!
After six years of working freelance, and on the look-out for new professional challenges, I became an intern at the building authority of the NRW Ministry of Building and Transport. After successfully completing this internship I became a chief officer of the Aachen municipal authorities in the areas of traffic management, housing, structural engineering and road construction. I am currently released from my responsibilities in order to take up my parliamentary seat.
As an ordinary citizen one is unaware of many decisions taken at a political level. This awakened my curiosity and encouraged me to play an active part in politics.
My professional experience is reflected in my political work. My key areas are ecological building, housing and urban planning, transport; personnel development, administrative modernisation and the compatibility of work and family; women's and lesbian politics.
One thing I am particularly passionate about is activating a change of consciousness in Germany: the changeover from the car to the railway and the bicycle!
