Spokesperson on atom policy

When the Green Party was being founded, I had just had my first child and moved to the country with my partner. We wanted to provide for ourselves as far as possible and live in harmony with nature. It was called "alternative" in those days, and it wasn't admired, or even accepted, by all our village neighbours. I found that my goal of ecologically correct living hit many kinds of limits. And when our "harmony with nature" became increasingly overshadowed by forest dieback, Chernobyl and the ozone hole it became clear to me that our idyll of a green island with an old farmhouse and a herb garden wasn't working. I wanted to take part in the debate on these limitations and the search for new directions. The thing that fascinated me about the Green approach from the start was its holistic view, the perception of the interconnection of all problems and their solutions. So, although ecology is at the core of our politics, I see it as indivisibly linked to social and global justice.
