Spokesperson on health in developing countries

Commitees

It was at a fantastic demonstration against atomic power plants in Berlin on 5 September 2009 that I remembered what it was that had attracted me to politics in the 1970s. The movement back then largely succeeded because Green politics had deep roots in the alternative movement and were widely accepted. Even today, where we find ourselves in opposition once again, we can decisively shape the important topics of our times and influence the direction policy takes if we manage to make constructive, well-researched proposals as to how our industrial and service-based society can be rebuilt. We must stand shoulder to shoulder once again with the peace initiatives and environmental associations. To successfully call for social justice and human rights from the opposition benches, we must work together with the churches, unions and human rights organisations. The One World movement can only succeed if we manage to solve the energy problem and drastically cut back our consumption of raw materials. Developing countries have a right to maintain their own food production processes, but are currently prevented from doing so by our absurd agricultural subsidies. Not least, these even harm farmers here as well. We can and must succeed. That is what I will be fighting for.
