Online-Fachgespräch Countdown to COP28: Empowering Perspectives and Demands of the Global South for Climate Action

Die Klimakrise trifft diejenigen am stärksten, die am wenigsten zu ihr beitragen. Gleichzeitig kommen diese Personen nur selten zu Wort: Auf den Klimakonferenzen wird meist über den Globalen Süden gesprochen, aber wenig mit den Vertreter*innen und Bevölkerungsgruppen aus den Regionen der Welt, die schon heute mit den Folgen der Klimakrise zu kämpfen haben. Im Vorfeld der Weltklimakonferenz möchten wir in den Austausch kommen und erfahren, welche Lösungen Expert*innen der globalen Klimapolitik für Klimagerechtigkeit einfordern und verhandeln. Ein besonderes Augenmerk möchten wir dabei auf die Evaluierung der Klimaziele, notwendige Klimaanpassungsmaßnahmen, den Ausbau von Erneuerbaren Energien, den „Loss & Damage“ Fonds sowie den Ausstieg aus den Fossilen haben.

Die Veranstaltung soll einen Austausch zwischen Akteur*innen aus den am stärksten betroffenen Regionen und Parlamentarier*innen sowie Regierungsvertreter*innen ermöglichen, um einen Beitrag zu einer inklusiveren Weltklimakonferenz zu leisten.

The climate crisis impacts the lives of those the hardest who contribute least to it. At the same time, they rarely get a chance to speak: at climate conferences, the Global South is usually discussed, but little are the representatives and population groups from the regions of the world that are already struggling with the consequences of the climate crisis included in those discussion.

In the run-up to the World Climate Conference, we would like to engage in an exchange and find out what solutions global climate policy experts are demanding and negotiating for climate justice, in particular the evaluation of climate targets, climate adaptation measures, the expansion of renewable energies, the "Loss & Damage" fund and the phasing out of fossil fuels, and how we can address these issues at COP28.

We want to create a space for exchange between actors from the most affected regions, parliamentarians and government representatives to contribute to a more inclusive world climate conference.

We are aware that most affected persons, especially BIPoC, women and young people, are not sufficiently represented in negotiations. We would therefore like to place a special focus on creating a space for these people to contribute their perspectives.
